AJ U11s v Oxted and Limpsfield 28th May

On 28th May AJ U11 team played Oxted and Limpsfield at King George Playing Fields in Morden.

Oxted lost the toss and were put in to bat first on a very warm day by AJ skipper Gabriel Harrington Myers.
Oxted started very strongly hitting the AJ bowlers to all parts of the ground. They opening pair were formiddable and they were on 29 runs after only 3 overs.  It took Ashton pin point accuracy to pick up the important wicket of the opening batter who was also a county player. This pegged them back a bit! Ashton’s opening bowling partner Tom Ranyard also got into the act and picked up a crucial wicket after being hit for 24 runs off 2 overs. Great come back from Tom!
Good bowling and confident catching, stumping and fielding put the AJ side in the driving seat.
Ashton continued to bowl with consistency and accuracy and finished with excellent figures 11 for 1 in 4 overs.
Wickets started to come for the AJ side on regular intervals when the spinners came into action, Sam Gale bowled with excellent control, he took 3 wickets for 20 runs in his 4 overs. He was very well supported by Harry Overend and Gabriel Harrington Myers who both bowled excellent leg spin. Harry picked up 2 wickets. Gabriel only going for 11 runs in his 4 overs. Joshua Vergunst and Ethan French finished the tail off by taking 3 wickets between them. Oxted were dismissed for 103 in 23.4 overs.
104 to win off 24 overs.
AJ U11s skipper led from the front opening the batting with Callum and they both ran between the wickets positively and put on 48 in 5 overs. This calmed the nerves in the dressing room for rest of the AJ batters. There was a bit of a wobble after Gabriel retired on 33 and Callum dismissed for 3. Hugo and Arun were run out for 5 and O respectively. Harry Overend came to the rescue at no 5 scoring 24 quality runs before he was run out too. Sam Gale was bowled by Will without troubling the scorers which meant it was left to the wicket keeper batsman Aaron Thomas and Joshua Vergunst to finish the job off. Both were not out at the end which meant AJ completed thier first league win in only thier 2nd game of the season by 5 wickets.
Most important thing for me today was watching the boys coming together as a team. They supported each other and had a positive and attacking mindset from the start. This game could have easily gone the other way. Oxted were a decent side. Have to say a big thank you to the Oxted boys who played the game in the right spirit.
Massive thank you to Ben who umpired the game from the Oxted side.
AJ U11 play Banstead next Sunday away! Come on boys. Keep this attitude up!
