AJ Newsletter June 2017

June’s Cricket News

I cannot start this month’s newsletter without mentioning how Pakistan overcame firm favourites India, to win the Champions Trophy – their first 50 – over trophy since the 1992 World Cup! Pakistan cricketers have often taken a bold approach to change that has given their cricket a fresh dimension that few can match but what really stood out for me was their strong belief in themselves. That success has given them a real boost to morale and bodes well for future success.
This month, I have seen the same self-belief and confidence across ALL AJ Coaching Cricket Academy’s age groups. Two notable games that mirrored this were from the Under 9s who played two matches on the 6th June against Esher CC and on the 19th June against Spencer CC.
Despite awful weather conditions which made it very difficult to play against Esher CC, the under 9s played against a very well established team with 9 county players. Even though we lost, the boys tried very hard and really kept up their spirits on the field with a good team performance. In the other match we achieved a hard fought victory with an eventual win by more than 30 odd runs. The boys showed true character and team spirit with an impressive display of bowling and fielding.  It has also shown me just how much the under 9s have improved since the beginning of the season. And they are not alone! I have watched the same self-belief, motivation and camaraderie across all age groups. The league tables look very strong.

The AJ Under 8s currently sharing the top spot with Wimbledon on 16 points after 4 games. This is a very promising start to their cricketing careers.  The under 9s are second in the table on 20 points after playing 7 games. The under 11s are 5th in the league and every aspect of the Under 11s matches has also moved forward. The Under 11s team has also shown tremendous resilience and strength of character playing 8 games including 2 cup matches which have indeed been tough.
June has shown me that team spirit, focus and lots of skill has rewarded us with some great results. Keep believing boys and well done for a successful June!
